What OpenLedger is
A shared notebook for tracking expenses between people who know each other. It records what people say happened and computes balances from that. It does not hold, move, or transfer money. Any payment links (Venmo, Cash App, PayPal) simply open those services; the transaction happens there, under their terms.
Entries are claims, not facts
Anyone on a balance can record an expense, dispute one, or say they paid. A balance on OpenLedger is a record of those claims. It is not a debt instrument, an invoice, or evidence of an agreement, and we make no representation that any amount shown is owed or collectible. Settle disagreements with each other; the dispute tools exist to help, not to adjudicate.
Your responsibilities
- Only add people you actually share expenses with, and only send invites to them.
- Don't use OpenLedger to harass anyone. Reminders are rate-limited and mutable for that reason.
- Keep your sign-in email secure. Anyone who can read it can sign in as you.
- Don't forward invite links. Whoever opens one can claim the history it points to.
Availability and liability
OpenLedger is provided as-is. We work to keep it available and backed up, but we don't guarantee uptime or that data will never be lost, and we are not liable for any loss arising from its use, including amounts you believe you were owed. Export your statements (every balance has a CSV download) if you need a copy.
Changes and termination
We may change these terms; material changes are announced in the app. You can close your account at any time (see Privacy). We may suspend accounts used to abuse other people.
